Watch it in action
Snap’s SPECS are trying to do what most augmented reality glasses still only promise: look like eyewear, feel wearable, and ship as a real product.
They’re standalone, come in two sizes, support prescriptions, and use transparent waveguide displays with a 51-degree field of view. Snap says the electrochromic lenses shift from clear to tinted in about 10 seconds, so the frame can move from indoor clarity to a darker, more private look without breaking the illusion.
What makes SPECS stand out
- Standalone design — no tether, no puck.
- Two sizes — 47 mm and 52 mm.
- Prescription-ready — removable inserts for vision correction.
- Waveguide display — transparent visuals that stay anchored to the real world.
- Electrochromic lenses — clear to tinted in seconds.
A floating computer, not a toy
Snap is positioning SPECS as a new computing platform, not a novelty headset. The company says the glasses can support work tools, entertainment, shared experiences, and AI assistance while keeping the wearer present in the room.
That’s the visual hook: a screen that appears in front of your eyes, but a frame that still reads like everyday eyewear.
The price of the future
SPECS are available to pre-order for $2,195, with shipping expected to begin in Fall 2026 in the U.S., the U.K., and France.
For now, the wow factor is simple: these are real, wearable augmented reality glasses you can actually reserve.
